Jacks Get a Wild Win

Win's aren't always pretty, but they are wins nonetheless, in this instance winning 110-92. We welcomed Turtle Mountain to our campus last night, and they punched us in the face early. By the 16:00 mark we had more fouls than points, and trailed by 8 or 9 points as we came out very slow. We were able to tie the game a couple times in the first half but a late run gave the Mikinocks a 51-43 lead at halftime. We struggled from the field, shooting  32%. There were a total of 47 free throws shot in the first half as well, as the game was full of fouls with both teams over 10.

In the second, TMCC scored 5 of the first 7 points to push the lead to as much as 13 early in the half. However, after the initial spurt we made our run with defense leading the way. We started to turn them over and gave up one shot per possession. On the other side of the ball led by Jalyn Turner and Gilbert Carter we started to attack and get to the rim. We eventually cut the lead down until we tied the game at 70 and took the lead 73-70 into a timeout, never looking back. The lead would grow slowly the rest of the half until we had our biggest lead at 103-83.

Leading the way was Turner with 29 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Carter scored 23 points with 8 rebounds and 3 assists, Keouvion McCalop added 25 points (21 in the second half) with 13 rebounds and 2 blocks. Off the bench playing a huge role was Shaq Carlyle with 11 points and 5 rebounds.

We improved to 5-1 on the year, and will head to Wahpeton to face Anoka Ramsey on Saturday afternoon and Central Lakes - Brainerd on Sunday.
