First Two of 2015 in the Books, Time for Mon-Dak Play

The Lumberjacks opened up 2015 the same way they ended it with wins. In this case, two wins at the NCTC Pioneer Classic.

On Friday, January 2nd, the knocked off Red River College, 81-56. Defensively they were able to stifle Red River and were able to wear them down as the 2nd half went on. It was back and forth in the first half, with DCB holding a 38-33 lead at halftime. In the second half the Jacks clamped down, holding RRC to 9 points over the first nine minutes of the 2nd half, and would expand the lead to as high as 28 at 74-46. Leading the way was Gilbert Carter with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals. Patrick Robinson added 15 points with 6 steals, while Keouvion McCalop and Jalyn Turner added 12 each. Kristoff Walker was the final double digit scorer with 10 points.

On Saturday, the Jacks continued their defensive pressure knocking off NCTC by a 72-58 tally. Neither team shot extremely well, with DCB leading 36-24 at halftime. In the second half, the Jacks would slowly build their lead up to as high as 27, 63-36 before the final tally. Leading a balanced attack was Carter with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Shaq Carlyle scored 12 points, including 4-6 on threes. His effort led a 26 point outburst by the bench. Louis Williams also off the bench scored 11 points with 5 rebounds, and McCalop added 11 points as well.

The Jacks improved to 14-3 on the season and coming off the strong weekend have entered the NJCAA National Rankings at #19.  They open conference season on January 8 when they play host to D1 member, Bismarck State College. The women's game is slated for 6 pm and the men's game 20 minutes later.
